Vineyard Sound Strikes a Chord

The a cappella group kicked off a summer tour at the Federated Church on Thursday.

When the Vineyard Sound—the all-male college a cappella group that stages countless performances throughout the Island each summer—took to the stage at the Federated Church in Edgartown Thursday night, almost all of them were barefoot. Singing songs of heartache and optimism, sprinkled with smiles, snapping and stomping, they couldn't make singing four-part harmonies any more natural. The group says it will perform between 60 to 85 performances this summer, including private parties and weddings. Thursday's performance at the Federated Church marked the first of the season.

Vineyard Sound will stage five weekly performances, in additional to special performances, through August 19 in Chilmark, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. Their weekly schedule appears below:

  • Mondays, 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oak Bluffs
  • Tuesdays, 8 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Church in Chilmark
  • Thursdays, 8 p.m. at the Federated Church in Edgartown
  • Fridays, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Edgartown (except July 29)
