"Where Horses Fly" is Dream Come True for Young Artist

Twenty-two year old Sabrina Kuchta spent her summers studying art at . Sunday afternoon she returns to Featherstone to celebrate the completion of her first book illustration, "Where Horses Fly" at a book launch party in the Pebble Gallery.

A recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Sabrina Kuchta is already experiencing success. After majoring in Illustration for Children's Books, Kuchta was approached by Vineyard Stories publisher Jan Pogue and author, Jacqui Boulter about illustrating "Where Horses Fly." The children's book is about a girl who visits her grandparents in Martha's Vineyard and takes a magical ride on the Flying Horses carousel.

"I think the story is so inspiring so it was fun to illustrate," said Kuchta who spent her childhood summers here on the Vineyard.

"For me coming to Martha's Vineyard was always an awesome change of scenery. My strongest memory of coming here was how gorgeous it was." Kuchta said she drew from past experiences in her illustrations.

Kuchta liked collaborating with Pogue and Boulter during the making of the book. "I thoroughly enjoyed the process," said Kuchta. "I know a lot of people don't like being critiqued, but to me it was actually really enjoyable. I would draw something and they would tell me what they liked and what I needed to keep working on or if I forgot some detail."

Now that Kuchta is done with her first illustration she is working on ceramics projects and her portfolio. But she is trying to get another book deal. "I would love to do more illustrations."

Kuchta is very excited about the book launch tomorrow. "I feel incredibly lucky and incredibly fortunate...it's kind of surreal."

The "When Horses Fly," book launch party takes place Sunday, July 8th at the Pebble Gallery at from 4pm - 6pm.

"Where Horses Fly" is available at , Vineyard Haven, , Rainy Day, and Flying Horses Carousel. A portion of book sale proceeds will be donated to the for continuing maintenance of the Flying Horses Carousel.
