Tisbury Police Officer Charged with Crimes, Report Says

The Martha's Vineyard Times reports that Officer Kelly Kershaw faces arraignment today in Edgartown District Court on four criminal charges, including a felony, after allegedly interfering with firefighters and police during a blaze at her home May

An embattled Tisbury police officer has a court date this morning after allegedly interfering with firefighters and threatening to kill two police officers responding to a blaze at her home May 9, according to a report in the Martha's Vineyard Times.

Officer Kelly Kershaw, who is currently on medical leave after crashing her patrol vehicle into a tree and is also in the process of suing the town and police department for employment discrimination, faces four criminal charges at the request of Tisbury Police Chief Dan Hanavan, the Times reports.

Kershaw is charged with hindering a firefighter, a felony, and three misdemeanors: assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and threatening to commit a crime, according to the Times report, which cites Tisbury police officers as saying Kershaw appeared to be intoxicated as she repeatedly tried to get into her burning home where she said a pet chicken was inside.
