Route 6 Road Work to be Completed at Night

After hearing from her constituents, Senate President Therese Murray asks for MassDOT to limit daytime road work. Tell us what you think about it!

Good news Martha's Vineyard! If you are traveling off-Island anytime soon, you won't find yourself in miles of traffic - at least not traffic caused by road work. MassDOT yesterday agreed to conduct all work on Route 6 at night. If any daytime work is necessary, MassDOT will provide justification prior to issuing any contracts or conducting any work. Senate President Murray made this request after receiving reports of repeated daytime backups, according to an official statement.

"I heard from a number of my constituents on the Cape that the backup on Route 6 from daytime construction was making travel in the area nearly impossible and I heard about the impact on businesses from the Chambers of Commerce," Murray said. "The switch from daytime to nighttime construction is great news for the Cape and I'm glad that MassDOT was willing to work with us on this issue to find a solution."

Do you think this will help solve traffic problems? Do you think it is enough? Have you ever written a letter about construction clogging the Cape's main roadway? What was your worst traffic nightmare on Route 6?
