Possible Dreams Auction Moves to Winnetu

This year's Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction takes place July 28 at the Winnetu resort in Katama. The event benefits Martha's Vineyard Community Services, which provides year-round programs for Islanders.

Martha's Vineyard Community Services has a new location for the 2013 Possible Dreams fund-raiser.

Now called the Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction in honor of its longtime celebrity auctioneer, who died in 2007, th 35th annual event takes place at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Katama July 28 starting at 4 p.m.

Among the celebrities who have donated auction lots over the years:

  • Carly Simon
  • Katharine Graham
  • Dan Aykroyd
  • David McCullough

According to Lindsay Miner of MVCS,

  • The idea for an "unbuyable opportunities" auction was brought to Community Services by Sandy Ray, then chair of the Fundraising Committee.
  • The Possible Dreams Auction is one of the oldest, most enduring celebrity concept auctions.
  • In its first 31 years, the Auction Committee has raised over $8 million dollars in support of unfunded care provided by the five programs of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services:
    • Connect to End Violence
    • Disability Services
    • Early Childhood Programs
    • Island Counseling Center
    • The Thrift Shop
