Five Things You Need To Know Today: August 15

1. Senator Scott Brown will lead a discussion on tourism and jobs at a Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the in West Tisbury. The breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m.; Brown will speak at 8 a.m.

2. The Aquinnah/Gay Head Community Association will host a wine and cheese gathering at the Vanderhoop Homestead on Aquinnah Circle at 5 p.m. The evening will feature a talk by Martha's Vineyard Commission executive director Mark London about the issue of wind power and how it will affect Aquinnah and the Vineyard generally. For planning purposes, RSVPs to 508-645-9630 would be appreciated.

3. The Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Festival will present An Evening with John Belushi, at the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Organizers will screen “The Blues Brothers” and rare Belushi skits, present Belushi’s widow Judy an award in his honor and establish the first ever John Belushi Larger Than Life Award. The event is free.

4. The Vineyard Playhouse will present “” at 7 p.m. The play is being presented as part of the ongoing African American Festival of Theater & Music, and is performed by Stan Strickland. Tickets are $35.

5. The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society will welcome the to the for an 8 p.m. performance. Tickets are $35 at the door, $30 with an Our Island Club card.
