Island Book Includes Opt-In For Cell Phone Users
ISLAND BOOK INCLUDES OPT IN FOR CELL PHONE USERS
The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce, publishers of the Island Book phone book, will allow residents and business owners the option of including cell phone numbers in the 2013 Island Book.
“In an effort to support business and residents, the Chamber will now offer people with land lines and cell phones the opportunity to be listed in the Island Book phone book,” said Nancy Gardella, executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce.
As the sole publisher of residential phone listing on the Vineyard, the Island Book is expanding service to support folks who have dropped land lines in favor of cell phones.
“Times are changing, and many busy people have forgone their land lines for cell phones,” Gardella said.
While landline customers of Verizon and Comcast do not have to do anything to keep their listing in the Island Book, cell phone users who want to be listed will need to complete a simple form, on-line or in-person at the Chamber.
The cell phone listings will be available to businesses and residents alike. In the Yellow Pages business listings, Chamber members will have the option of adding a cell phone listing at no charge, and for non-members the charge will be a one-time fee of $30.00.
In the White Page residential listings, anyone may add or change their number to a cell phone listing for a one-time fee of $30.00. The phone numbers will automatically renew with each new edition of the Island Book, until notified by the customer.
Last year a technical glitch resulted in many Comcast customers being left out of the Island Book.
“The Island Book has become iconic to Martha’s Vineyard, and we take our responsibility very seriously. It was heartbreaking to us that numbers were accidently left out of last year’s Island Book,” Gardella said. “With the 2013 Island Book, not only will we restore the missing land lines, but we will also give Islanders more options.”
All cell phone submissions must be received in writing by February 15, 2013 to ensure submission into the 2013 Island Book, due out in early June.
To submit on-line, visit www.MVY.com. You may also stop into the Chamber office at 24 Beach Street in Vineyard Haven between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
